How to Measure

Neck / Collar

Measure around the base of the neck where the collar sits.

Chest

Measure the total circumference of your chest at its fullest point, just under your armpit.

Waist

Place your hands on your hips and bend to the side. The indent on your side as you bend is your natural waist. Measure the total circumference at this point.

Waist - Jeans

Measure your circumference at a point about two inches (5cm) below the belly button.

Hip

Stand with your feet 6” (15cm) apart. Measure the total circumference at the fullest point of your hip.

Sleeve Length

With your elbow slightly bent, starting at your middle neck bone, measure to the point of your shoulder and down to your wrist bone. Or take a shirt that fits well and take the same measurement.

Inseam

Stand with your feet 6” (15cm) apart. Measure from the top of the leg/crotch to below the ankle. Or take a pair of pants that fit well and take the same measurement.

Foot Length

Step 1: Tape a piece of paper to the floor, stand on this making sure you are stood on the hard, flat surface. Push your heel up against the wall.

Step 2: Get someone to draw around the forepart of your foot with a pen or pencil. Repeat for both feet as they could measure differently.

Step 3: Measure the length of the heel to toe measurement for both feet. Compare the measurement to the size chart.

Foot Width

Step 1: Stand up straight and distribute your weight evenly on your feet.

Step 2: Wrap a measuring tape around the widest part of your foot - for most people this will be the joint, which is located just before your toes.

Step 3: Make sure the tape is not slack but not too tight. Then read off your measurement and compare it on the size chart.

If you don't have a ruler or tape measure handy, you can try to measure with a standard credit card, which has a width of 3 ⅜ inch or 8.56 cm and a height of 2 ⅛ inch or 5.4 cm.

Men's short sleeve lengths vary by brands, and even with the same brand, different size/fit/style could have different lengths as well. So look for product measurement (vs. body measurement) if the merchant website has that. Generally speaking, you want the sleeves to end between the middle and the bottom of your bicep. When looking for a more modern style, choose a sleeve length that is closer to the middle of your bicep. When you are needing a more conservative look for the office or other professional setting, go with a sleeve length that ends at the bottom of your bicep.

How can you tell the cuff size of a dress shirt? I have purchased 8 shirts with enormous cuff and way too loose.
